Interesting Property

2 min read

One of the most expensive properties for sale seen for some time in Pollockshields and in fact the wider area. Known currently by the name of Matheran. It is a Grade B listed Baronial mansion.

Matheran sits within an area of Pollokshields that has many grand properties but I am almost sure this particular property is as good as it gets. Positioned on the corner of Sherbrooke Avenue and Sprinkkell Avenue.

The Property

A 7-bed Baronial Mansion with so many of the original features retained. It is grade B listed, you can find out more about listings in my other article.

Essentially a B listing means the property is of regional or more than local importance, a major example of a particular period or building type. There may be some restrictions on any planned additions/alterations.

In the past, the property was split into multiple properties, and the current owner has returned it to its original state as a single property. It is clear the owner has spent a lot of time and money on the restoration. There are some modern elements but key features from the property's Baronial origins have been retained. Overall it really is a thoughtful restoration.

10,000 square feet over 3 floors the property is vast as well as being in a large corner plot with mature gardens. There is a gym, sauna and wine cellar. In addition, there is a 2-bed suite for visitors with a kitchen that can be used as it's own separate unit. The ecclesiastical arches, wood panelling and arched ceilings are a stunning mix with the modern elements of the property.

Whilst it is close to other properties and borders two streets the property sits well back within the mature gardens and stone surrounding wall. Very private.

The Area

Pollokshields is steeped in history going back hundreds of years. It is close to Pollok Park, Bellahouston Park and the smaller Maxwell Park is at the end of Springkell Avenue. For commuters, there is easy access to the M77 and Dumbreck Train Station is quite close. By train or car, Glasgow city centre is just 10 minutes away.

Some images are below, you can see more in the Savills link further down.

Sale Details

At offers over £2.5m, it is expensive but very unique. The property is being marketed by Savills in Glasgow. You can view the full listing on their site whilst it remains unsold. The property has been listed for sale since August 2022.
